| Now imagine that beauty on your mobile phone |
Microsoft has announced their plans for the Gears of War franchise after purchasing the rights from Epic Games earlier today.
The plan, according to a blog post from Microsoft's well known Larry Hryb, is to release a series of "beautiful high definition wallpapers for your desktop and mobile phones."
Taking on the task of moving this high profile franchise forward will be Black Tusk Studios. Formerly Microsoft Vancouver, the developer had been working on a secret new IP meant to rival Halo, but has sense been taken off the project to work on these wallpapers. "We're very excited about the opportunity," one concept artist told us, "I mean, that other game we were working on was going likely to revolutionize the gaming industry, but you can't argue with a nice desktop background."
While pricing and availability aren't yet available, word is anyone excited about the wallpapers can expect one or two to be available right off the bat, with several more for planned DLC later.
When we called Microsoft for a short phone interview our first question was about the future of the actual Gears of War games outside of the upcoming wallpapers. We were told by a PR representative, "Oh, yeah, that. Well, we want every gamer to experience the thrill of seeing Marcus Fenix on their desktop or mobile phones when they boot them up with these wallpapers. Honestly we feel like these will be the best wallpapers in the business. Better than anything our competition is offering. But that will likely be the extent of our Gears of War usage. You didn't really think it would be another game or anything did you?"
It was also revealed to us that Black Tusk studios would in fact be shut down after they complete this project.
