Bioware Declares All Mass Effect Fanfiction Is Now Canon
In response to frustrations over Mass Effect 3's ending and subsequent "extended edition" storylines, Bioware President Matthew Bromberg stated that all fanfiction related to Mass Effect is considered canon from this point forward. The announcement comes years after Mass Effect 3's release date and amidst rumors of a fourth entry into the series on the horizon.
In the controversial Mass Effect 3 ending, the protagonist Commander Shepard was presented with three options of how to handle the main enemy, the Reapers - destroy them, control them, or merge with them. This ending effectively negated all the choices the players had made previously in the three games and reduced the game to a single choice with three options. This is all something that Mr. Bromberg acknowledged briefly in the press release stating, "Yeah that shit sucked."
