Cliff Bleszinski Reveals Details On His Upcoming Video Game Adaptation Of The Hunger Games

The creator of The Gears of War and Unreal franchises has been fairly mum on his plans since leaving Epic Games in 2012, but Cliff Bleszinski has finally revealed that his next big project will be a video game adaptation of The Hunger Games. While the designer has assured fans of the book and film franchise that he will do his best to remain true to the lore, there will also be a brand new character exclusive to the video games.

This new character named Michael Sue will be playable from the outset and the only playable character for the majority of the game. “Michael is just this super popular and good-looking kid that everyone loves,” Bleszinski told us. “We’re still early in his design, but so far we know he’ll have some really cool spiky hair and also go by MikeyS.”

The new powers of the Michael Sue character will also blend seamlessly into the Hunger Games mythos. Wielding the ability to expertly craft first-person shooters on the fly, Michael Sue will be able to fend off other attacking children by distracting them with his massive talent, much like Katniss Everdeen wields her own weapons and intelligence.

Another small re-write to the original story is that Katniss’s main love interest will not be Peeta Mellark, but instead be the new character. “In our slight alteration to the story, Peeta is just a weak video game critic that no wants to listen to, while our main protagonist MikeyS is too cool, attractive and talented for Katniss to ignore. So of course she dates him instead,” said Bleszinski as he sighed listfully into the distance.

The Hunger Games author is also apparently on board with the project according to a letter she allegedly wrote to Cliff when he told her about his idea. “Of course I like it, CliffyB,” reads the framed letter hanging up in Bleszinski’s living room, “If I’m going to allow anyone to add a new character to my book it’d be you. Did I ever tell you how handsome you are?” While we weren’t able to confirm with Suzanne Collins that she actually wrote the endorsement, Bleszinski assures us it’s real.
