Minecraft Speedrunner Currently In Hour 457, On Pace To Set World Record

Professional speedrunner and Minecraft YouTuber 2Fast2Craft is currently in the middle of his potentially record-breaking run of the popular indie game. Started nearly 20 days ago in an attempt to get his name in the speedrunning history books, 2Fast2Craft says he still has a ways to go but he’s well on track to beat the previous record of infinity.

This isn’t the longtime Minecraft player’s first attempt at the speedrun either, trying several times since the game first released several years ago. The first ended abruptly when 2Fast2Craft made a fatal error while mining in the ice plains biome which can be seen in his archived video footage. Towards the end of the video before it cuts off in a fit of rage he can be seen completely missing the jump from one of the plateaus to the top of a tree in an attempt to mine it down - a common Minecraft speedrunning move known as the plattreejumpminbackreverse. It’s a simple mistake that cost him a tragic 0:19 seconds off his score as he ran back around and up the plateau to attempt the jump again; completely throwing him off the pace to set the record.

“I’ll never forget that day,” he said in an interview with IGN shortly after that fateful run, “I had already mined four square miles of blocks and was in a good pace, but that threw everything off. It’s a shame those 300 hours went to waste but I won’t let it happen again.” As it turns out, he did in fact do it two more times, once in the taiga biome and once in a forest biome with the runs ending at 49 and 307 hours respectfully.

Not accepting fai
lure as an option, the then 16-year-old gamer spent the next two years of his life neglecting friends, family and the majority of his recommended caloric intake trying to perfect the jump and, more importantly, his full run. Already struggling with his schoolwork before starting his training, the near-failing student ended up dropping out in 2011. His parents, who now mostly support his decision to pursue something he loves, do have their own concerns. “Maybe if he paid more attention in school,” they told us “he would realize that procedurally generated means there’s no way to beat the damn game.”

On his run currently in progress, utilizing several known speedrunning strategies like backhopping and trickdigging, 2F2C has been able to complete what he says is the majority of the game on the current record-setting pace. “I feel good about it,” he mentioned during his stream, “all I need to do is create the Ender Portal, defeat the Ender Dragon and mine every single block until the game runs out of terrain to generate. Easy.”

By his own estimates, the 18-year-old speed runner will complete the game in a mere 96,423 hours, at the end of which he hopes to have several children and a loving wife ready to congratulate him on his record.
