Did Google Maps Find Half-Life 3 In The Middle of Lake Michigan?

In what scientists and gamers alike are calling the greatest discovery of our generation if it’s found to be true, an anonymous Google Maps user recently spotted what is believed to be the elusive game everyone has been waiting for, Half-Life 3. While the image is blurry and it’s in the middle of Lake Michigan, there is still hope that it is in fact the long overdue sequel to Half-Life 2. Debate continues to rage about if the image in question is just the wake of a previous Half-Life game or in fact Half-Life 3 itself.

“I told you all it was real!” said forum user BelieveIn369, who claims to have been tracking Half-Life 3 since the day he finished the second game in the series nearly a decade ago, “You all laughed at me and called me insane for thinking that weird pattern in Gabe [Newell]’s beard last month was a sign that it was coming, but it was! It really was!” To back up his claims, BelieveIn369 also presented a series of documents showing a detailed map of the Valve CEO’s movements and what clothes he wore for the past three years. The documents show Gabe Newell taking several trips to Michigan as well as Florida, Maine, Iowa, Europe, Australia, California, Virginia, New York, Vermont, New Mexico and the southern tip of Africa which, BelieveIn369 asserts, proves he did in fact visit Michigan once and must have dropped Half-Life 3 into the lake by accident.

A prominent group of re
searches have been working round the clock attempting to confirm the appearance, but their findings have turned up some disappointing results for anyone looking forward to the long awaited sequel.

“What we see in the image is a mix of glitching from Google’s mapping software and a superimposed Half-Life 2 logo that makes it look like Half-Life 3 floating in the lake,” a report by the group said, “While we and everyone else are excited to play Half-Life 3, we’re not going to jump to conclusions and get our hopes up again. There is no doubt in my mind that it’s nothing more than a wake caused by Half-Life 2 and not the sequel itself.”

This isn’t the first time the internet has been abuzz about Half-Life 3, either. Everything from hidden messages to supposed leaked code from the game have been floating around for years ever since it became apparent that the sequel wouldn’t be coming out anytime soon. Oddly enough, this is not even the first time someone has claimed to find it floating in a lake either, as a longtime Half-Life 3 hunter claimed to capture a photo with his vintage black-and-white camera back in 2007 (seen below) spurring months of debate before it was assumed the image was somehow faked or altered.

As with all the previous rumors, Valve has quickly and vehemently denied them, stating in a recent blog post that “while we are thrilled that fans are looking to Half-Life 3 if and when we do make it and we’re not saying we are or that we did in any shape or form so please do not take this blog post as a way of saying we are we would like to re-iterate that this does not mean we are working on it, we request that you all please just stop believing these obviously faked images and spend more time preparing your wallets for the summer sale instead of dedicating time and energy to this nonsense.“
