OUYA has announced that they have successfully booked the prestigious Los Angeles Convention Center parking lot to hold their highly anticipated E3 keynote presentation. While the rest of the major console manufacturers are giving their keynotes and demos inside the actual convention center, OUYA hopes that by giving gamers a unique experience outside of the venue it will help them be noticed again.
“Of course we were invited into the actual convention center,” OUYA assured fans in their blog post announcing the keynote location and reminding everyone that they still do exist, “You didn’t think a conference about video games would forget the powerhouse that is OUYA do you? I’ll have you know we had TowerFall before everyone. Whenever someone is playing it on their PC or PS4 they always know that we had it first. We’re proud of that.” The oddly defensive blogpost also went on to remind everyone that they had a really successful Kickstarter so of course everyone loves them.
Overall, it’s been a banner year for the company, coming up on a full 12-months since their official public launch in June of 2013. Citing great sales numbers such as “a lot, believe us. It’s a lot,” and finding its home on back-of-the-store Target shelves as well as being featured prominently in Goodwill Stores nationwide, OUYA is confident that they can continue this great success into July and beyond.
Their road to success has already been leaked by NeoGAF forum user OUYACEO, with a full list of their E3 plans being laid out for the internet to see. The most exciting appears to be a brand new N64 emulator which features the ability to play N64 games and utilize the OUYA controller. While there are already hundreds of such emulators available, the leaked document claims that this one will be better in seemingly every way, but fails to give specifics. Alongside the new N64 emulator, OUYA Inc will also be announcing a new app which will launch a static image of the Xbox One dashboard so you can pretend you didn’t waste your money on an OUYA.
The groundbreaking keynote is expected to take place in the back of the parking lot near the Staples if CEO Julie Urhman is able to get her 2007 Toyota Sienna there in time to hold the spot. “Otherwise,” Urhman said in the blog post, “We’ll just sort of meet up in front of the Staples and try to scope out a spot. I’ve got about $40 of gas and I really can’t afford to fill it back up right now so we’re going to try and get the first one we can.”
Much like the effort put into the console itself, OUYA organizers say they are going all out to make this E3 something special for the dozens of fans expected to attend their van-based presentation. Utilizing nearly 90% of the yearly profits and “a few hundreds bucks from some sweet Cash4Gold trade-ins” the company hopes fans will enjoy hearing about their exciting products being blasted from their state-of-the-art Sienna stock speakers and playing the demos on their high-definition 27” LG televisions.
To cover costs of the presentation and hopefully let the company last more than a week, they are also preparing to accept donations. According to CTO and lead-PR manager Julie Urhman they will be accepting “$100s, $1s, pennies, anything. Please. Did I mention TowerFall?”
