Indie developer team Grappledoodler Games has announced a new Kickstarter campaign to fund their upcoming game Kickstarter Simulator Tycoon. The empire building and criminal mastermind simulator will give players the ability to finally be the con artist they have always dreamed and will be completed once developers reach their modest funding goal of $950,000.
“Games of this caliber probably aren’t cheap, I don’t fucking know,” Grappledoodler Game’s 24-year-old CEO Blake Dyson stated in his Kickstarter video, detailing his recently formed company’s budget that included $200,000 set aside for snacks and $100,000 allocated for their original artwork logo (seen above), “We’re doing something new and unique. In other crime simulators you rob a bank, run a prison, or something else that’s not even close to realistic. Well in Kickstarter Simulator Tycoon you have the ability to promise a bunch of shit, take people’s money, then doing nothing with it. That is something everyone can relate to and, if you really try, isn’t that hard to accomplish.”
Dyson also explained that the purpose of the game will be to set the loftiest goals possible with the lowest amount of actual work done. “The main objective is to just get your bullshit project funded and receive people’s money,” he told IGN, “anything you do after that is a bonus and doesn’t actually count towards your final score or anything.”
Given that the game has already raised an astonishing $843,409 in the two days since its debut on Kickstarter, it seems plausible that it will reach the one million dollar stretch goal set forth by Grappledoodler. Should Kickstarter Simulator Tycoon does reach that magical one million mark the developers promise that any project you create in the game will also have a page created on the real-life Kickstarter. As they stated in their stretch goal description, “This will not limit your creative choices in any way. If you want to create a project in Kickstarter Simulator Tycoon that has you creating a box of Kleenex which automatically dispenses a pleasant fragrance every time you take a tissue and set the goal to $3 milliion, that’s fine. It’ll blend right in with the other projects on the site anyway.”
If you don’t feel particularly creative but still want to play the game, the developers are also giving you the option of choosing from a template of other unoriginal Kickstarter ideas that are sure to get funded. Whether you want a pixel art side-scrolling puzzle roguelike RPG or a minimalist game based around a boring time mechanic you can do it in Kickstarter Simulator Tycoon. There is also a “hard more” available that will force the player to successfully start a popular YouTube channel before creating a Kickstarter campaign they have no idea how to manage.
The game itself does not have a release date yet but the developers have assured fans and backers that “We’ll have more information available about release dates, screenshots, any kind of proof that we’re even working on this game, and more once we hit our goal and receive all your money. Promise. Pinky promise. With a cherry on top.”
As of press time, the game has been fully funded and grappledoodlergames.com has gone offline.
