“Sure, it probably would have been slightly cheaper to just buy some motivational posters,” Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata told reporters, “But that would defeat the purpose of buying a bunch of shit and stacking it, now wouldn't it? Do you realize how much money we made on the Wii? We could build 80 more of these and still have enough left over to build a solid gold statue of Bowser to put in the lobby.”
Doubts about the tower began to spring up after a recent earnings report showed an operating loss of nearly the exact amount of the spire, leaving many wondering if the structure just wasn’t worth the $97 million dollar investment and questioning Iwata’s leadership in the process. In the earnings report, Iwata laid the blame and lackluster Wii U sales and the popular Mario Kart 8 not pushing sales of the consoles as expected but gave no mention of the looming tower.
Nintendo fans have quickly gone to forums and social media to defend their beloved video game company, claiming that the tower is a "new direction for video games" and, as Nintendo Life forum user LuigiDethStareLOL69 stated, "In a year or two you'll see every video game developer buying thousands of PS4s and building towers out of them. It's all part of Nintendo's plan, just be patient."
At press time it was revealed that several Nintendo employees brought up the idea of instead of making a giant tower maybe using the millions of dollars to create a new game based around Waluigi before they were promptly let go from the company and never heard from again.
