Although no release date has been announced, Swedish Developer Mojang has begun slowly dishing out details about the sequel to their popular survival and crafting game Minecraft. The next iteration will "build upon Minecraft's fantastic procedural generating algorithms to take randomization to a whole new level" according to their recent blog posts.
As it is now, the layout and world of Minecraft is entirely procedurally generated. The terrain, enemy locations, resource locations and different biomes are all random. Even more things will be left up to chance in Minecraft 2.
"We don't want any two games to be the same," says current Minecraft CEO Carl Manneh, "Hell, we don't even want two instances of the same game to be the same."
The player's appearance spawn location, ability to move, key bindings, hair color, default game language and chance that the game saves upon closing are just some of the things that will be randomized. According to the blog post, there is also a 50/50 chance the game won't even load when the player launches it. "Our goal is to have every single moment involving Minecraft to be a unique experience. Will it load? Will my mouse still work? Will dead bodies rain from the sky in a hellish display of terror and pain? Who knows! It's an adventure!"
The game is expected to be released in 2014, 2015, 2017 or 2030 depending on which year their random number generator decides.
